With his retirement coming up in less than a month, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. has expressed interest that he wants to serve as consultant at the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).

“I told Secretary Jesus Dureza, ‘Can I be some sort of consultant?’ He accepted my request,” the AFP chief said in press conference at Camp Aguinaldo on Monday.

“We have trust and confidence with the MILF [Moro Islamic Liberation Front] at the same MNLF [Moro National Liberation Front]. Also, what we want especially in contentious areas like the areas of the BIFF (Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters), we wanted that if ever during the effective implementation of the BOL [Bangsamoro Organic Law] maybe we can also reach out with the biff so that they can also join hands with us so that we can also have a peaceful life,” he added

Galvez will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Dec. 12.

His recent predecessors were all been given government posts by President Rodrigo Duterte after they stepped down from service.

The AFP chief previously served as a co-chairman of the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities of the government and the MILF. /atm
