Former Presidential spokesperson and now senatorial aspirant Harry Roque on Monday said that in order for him to win the senatorial race in the 2019 polls, he has to be like the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
Roque said that just like Santiago, he would like to be known for his intellectual capability, courage, and principles.
“Now that the odds are against me in the sense that there are so many re-electionists and comebacking senators, I think the only chance that I have is to follow the footsteps of Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago,” Roque said in an interview over ABS CBN News Channel.
“She’s known for her intellectual capability, her courage, her principles and these are exactly the ideals that I want to be known for as well,” Roque added.
Roque said that running under the banner of People’s Reform Party (PRP), which was the party of the late Senator Santiago, is “the will of God,” because his chance to win is to “shine like Senator Miriam.”
“Actually, I thought it was the will of God. If I’m going to win, my chance really is to shine just like Senator Miriam Santiago did ‘no, because as I said you have to be somehow different from everyone else,” he said.
The former Presidential spokesperson filed his certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2019 elections after earlier saying he would run as a party-list representative. /je
