Tropical Depression “Samuel” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said that the Caraga Region, Davao Oriental, and Compostela Valley may experience moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides.
According to Pagasa, tropical cyclone warning signals may also be raised over provinces in the Eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao between Sunday night or Monday morning.
The state weather bureau, meanwhile, advised the residents of the said areas to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates—especially those living near or in river channels, low-lying and mountainous areas.
“Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao due to the approaching tropical cyclone,” Pagasa added.
As of 10 a.m. the tropical depression was last spotted 980 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 65 kph. It is moving west southwest direction at 15 kph. /je
