Marcos loyalists blame Left

Supporters of the late President Ferdinand Marcos pointed accusing fingers at what they said were communist organizations for the legal woes hounding Marcos’ widow, Imelda.

The Marcos loyalists rallied at the Sandiganbayan on Friday as the court allowed Imelda to post a P150,000 bail.

One of the leaders of the group, Beth de Leon, said there had already been inordinate delay in the cases against Imelda, which meant these should already have been thrown out.

Political expedience dictated the outcome of the trial at the Sandiganbayan in violation of Imelda’s constitutional rights, including the right to speedy trial.

De Leon sought to repeat the Marcos line of achievements during the family’s more than 20-year reign.

She said the “youth of today” had been “falling for the smear campaign of critics” of the Marcos family.

Another loyalist at the rally, Rosinda Bato, of Tondo, Manila, said Marcos critics, mainly the Left, continued to fool the people.

Also present at the rally were the former mayor of Asuncion, Davao del Norte, Dr. Robinson Raiz, and his wife, Jesusa Raiz, from Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

The couple had organized groups of senior citizens who continued to support the Marcoses.
