6 cops hurt in Camarines Sur ambush

NAGA CITY — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels injured six police officers in an ambush by in Libmanan town in Camarines Sur province Saturday afternoon, police said.

The officers were reportedly on their way back to Libmanan town center aboard a police car from a medical mission in Barangay Bagamelon, also in Libmanan, when suspected rebels opened fire at them while in Sitio Patag in Barangay Mambulo Nuevo at around 4:30 p.m.

The rebels used an improvised explosive device in the attack.

Wounded in the firefight that ensued were PO3 Roland Hermogeno, PO1 Vladimir Guadalupe, PO1 Roy Carbonell, PO1 Eliseo Jomar Palaroan, PO1 Daisy Bhel Genova and PO1 Mikhail Jose Concina.

The wounded officers were taken to Mother Seton Hospital in Naga City.

Meanwhile, a pursuit operation was launched by Libmanan and Camarines Sur police and the military against the rebels who escaped after the attack. /atm
