President: Paolo Duterte running for House seat to get back at Trillanes

Presidential son and former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is running for Congress in the 2019 midterm elections to get back at Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, his father President Rodrigo Duterte said on Friday

“I think he’s running for congressman kasi napahiya… hiniya ni Trillanes. He was summoned to Congress,” Duterte said in his speech before the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea.

“Gaganti talaga ‘yan. He will be running for congressman, tabla sila dyan,” he added.

Paolo recently filed his certificate of candidacy for Davao City 1st District representative.

He resigned December last year, citing his failed marriage with his first wife and his alleged involvement in the 6.4-billion worth of shabu from China through the Bureau of Customs.

During a Senate inquiry on the alleged P6.4-billion shabu shipment in May 2017, Trillanes, one of the administration’s fiercest critics, accused Paolo of involvement in the illegal drug trade.

In the same speech, Duterte also took a swipe at Trillanes’ group, the Magdalo Party, which staged two uprisings against former President Gloria Arroyo. /jpv
