President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday likened the Magdalo Party-list to the international terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS).
“Be careful with Magdalo, be careful with the party Magdalo,” Duterte said his speech before the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea.
“Ito yung mga rebeldeng sundalo na nagkalat diyan sa Makati, pati sa Peninsula. And they destroyed everything, parang ISIS ang mga buang,” he added.
Citing Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s confrontation with his son Paolo, the President said the group does nothing but to “challenge” and “mock” people.
Magdalo party has been one of Duterte’s most active critics. The group includes Trillanes and Rep. Gary Alejano, who was the first to lodge an impeachment complaint against Duterte in 2017.
The group held the Oakwood Mutiny and Manila Peninsula siege with both efforts to remove then President Gloria Arroyo from her post.
Magdalo represents the retired personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and their families, as well as the urban poor and the youth at the House of Representatives. The Samahang Magdalo established it in 2010./ac
