The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has shortlisted seven candidates for the vacant Supreme Court (SC) associate justice post.
The position was vacated by retired Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro when she assumed the top magistrate post.

Those included in the JBC list were Court of Appeals Justices Manuel Barrios, Japar Dimaampao, Ramon Garcia, Edgardo Delos Santos, Apolinario Bruselas, Jr., and Amy Lazaro-Javier, who each obtained six votes; and Rosmari Carandang, who got five votes.
The names will be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte, who has 90 days from the date of vacancy to pick the next associate justice of the high court. /kga
