Senator Panfilo Lacson on Thursday agreed with Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde’s statement that the negative portrayal of television series “Ang Probinsyano” to police officers was “unfair.”
Lacson, who was himself a former chief of the PNP, also reminded the public that the use of police uniforms in the show was a violation of the law.
“Let’s face it. Marami rin namang mabubuting nagawa ang PNP (The PNP has done a lot of good deeds), especially the leadership, especially now,” he said in a regular forum in the Senate.
“I think it’s unfair to portray the PNP na parang ganoon (I think it’s unfair to portray the PNP like that),” he said.
Lacson’s said putting the police in a bad light was unfair despite the efforts of the current PNP leadership to cleanse its ranks.
The senator also explained that television shows were allowed to use police uniforms but not as exact as the real uniform.
“Bawal sa batas iyan. Bakit ka magsusuot ng uniporme kung hindi ka pulis (It’s not allowed in the law. Why will you wear that uniform if you are not a police)?” he said.
He said the attention of the show’s producer and staff should be called, noting the high number of its viewers and since the show has since been extended to continuously air in television. /cbb
