Cop shot dead outside Cebu car repair shop

CEBU CITY– A policeman was shot dead on Wednesday morning by a still unidentified gunman outside a car repair shop in Barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla town, in southern Cebu.

According to police, PO2 Lord Cañada and his brother-in-law Ken Echavz were about to ride a multicab when the suspect appeared and opened fire.

“Cañada and his brother-in-law were about to ride a multicab after visiting an auto shop to get his car fixed when the incident happened,” said Supt. Janette Rafter, Cebu Provincial Police Office information officer.

Rafter said Cañada, 38, was killed on the spot while Echavez was hit in the arm by a stray bullet. Cañada was assigned to the Minglanilla police station but was transferred to Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) in 2016, Rafter added.

Investigators have started reviewing closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footages to determine the identity of the gunman.  /muf
