Fire hits Subic villa built for 1996 Apec summit
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Fire struck a clubhouse used in the 1996 summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) on Monday, destroying offices, documents and equipment.
Firefighters said the 30-minute blaze started after explosions were heard from the lobby ceiling of the clubhouse on Monday morning.
The clubhouse was part of the Apec Villa complex, which housed economic leaders from 18 Asia-Pacific nations during the summit.
Aside from the clubhouse lobby, the fire also destroyed the sales office and show units of MSK Group Work Inc., a Taiwanese construction and engineering firm that is developing the P2-billion Triboa Majestic Bay Residences condominium project. —Allan Macatuno
