Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde “has no business” making comments on the impending arrest of former First Lady and incumbent Ilocos Norte 2nd District Rep. Imelda Romualdez Marcos, Senator Francis Escudero said Tuesday.

“He has no business actually commenting on these things because he is a member of the police force,” Escudero said over ABS CBN News Channel.

Escudero said that if the court issues the arrest order against Marcos, the police should follow, making the statement of Albayalde “immaterial.”

“If the court orders the arrest, or denies bail on appeal, General Albayalde’s opinion on age and other things are completely immaterial. They have to follow the order of the court,” he said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.

“They are supposed to either implement the law, or to obey the orders of the court,” he added.

Marcos was convicted on seven counts of graft and was sentenced to jail for up to 11 years for each count.

The decision stemmed from the transfer of around $200 million to Swiss foundations when she was still a member of the then Batasang Pambansa. /cbb
