Celebrity Keanna Reeves was arrested by operatives of Calamba City Police Station on Monday afternoon for allegedly issuing libelous statements during her live video posted on social media.
Reports from the Laguna Provincial Police Office said elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) caught Reeves, real name Janet Derecho Duterte, along Timog Avenue in Scout Ybardolaza, Quezon City.
The operation was launched after the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 34 of Calamba City, Laguna issued an arrest order against her for violation of Section 4(c) (Libel) of R.A. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, when she maligned a transgender female on Facebook Live last August.
According to complainant Nancy Ignacio Dimaranan, the problems arose over talent fees and contract issues. In television interviews, she said that Reeves insulted her in a live video posted on Facebook, calling her gay, a pig, and a devil.
Reeves was apparently a regular performer for a comedy bar in Calamba, for which she received P5,000 as talent fee per gig. However, she demanded an additional fee for her transportation expenses.
Dimarananan claimed that despite giving another P1,500 on top of the salary, Reeves ranted, which has affected her children. However, Reeves explained she performed in a far-flung area, thus needing additional fees.
RTC Branch 34 Judge Maria Florencia Formes-Baculo has recommended a bail of P20,000 for the temporary freedom of Reeves, who is currently under the custody of Calamba City Police. /je
