MANILA, Philippines—A 39-year-old man was shot in the face and killed Saturday evening in front of his horrified family by a gunman who barged into his home in Manila.
Roberto Aguirre, a resident of Block 7, Unit 923 Habitat for Humanity, Baseco Compound in Port Area, was taken by neighbors and members of his family to the Ospital ng Maynila but was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors. The bullet had exited through the back of the victim’s head.
Senior Police Officer 1 Ramir Dimagiba, of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section, said that the killing happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday inside Aguirre’s house.
Dimagiba revealed that before the shooting, Aguirre, his live-in partner Evangeline Quisoc, and their children were about to go to sleep when an armed man suddenly barged into their home.
Upon seeing Aguirre lying on a floor mat, the gunman approached him and fired aiming the pistol at his face. The shooter then fled, leaving members of Aguirre’s family stunned by the assault.
As soon as Quisoc got over her shock, she sought the help of neighbors in bringing her common law husband to the nearest hospital to try to save him but the effort proved futile.
The body was taken to the Floresco funeral parlor for autopsy while MPD homicide investigators conduct follow-up operations to determine the motive behind the killing as well as to identify and arrest the gunman.
