The Department of Education (DepEd) is joining the awareness program of the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking December 5-12.
The week-long program is part of an 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW). It aims to inform people on the modus operandi of traffickers and educate young students on the issue because of their vulnerability to traffickers.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said it was important that children learned early that violence in any form was not acceptable, especially if the victims were women and children.
A 40-minute film will be shown during the Makabayan lesson or any equivalent subject in selected public schools across the country.
DepEd and the Philippine Commission on Women and the Inter-Agency Council on Violence against Women and their Children are jointly undertaking the VAW campaign, which ends December 12.
The campaign focuses on information dissemination about VAW and how victims and survivors of violence can seek assistance from government and nongovernment organizations.
Gender and development lesson exemplars, which also teach equality between men and women, are being incorporated in public elementary and high school classes.
Luistro said gender equality was integrated across subjects such as English, Filipino, Araling Panlipunan and even mathematics.
