Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), the regional party of Davao City Mayor Sara “Inday” Duterte-Carpio, officially sealed an alliance with Quezon City’s Serbisyo sa Bayan Party (SBP) on Friday in preparation for the 2019 midterm elections.
The presidential daughter said HNP’s alliance with SBP, headed by Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, would help endorse senatorial candidates supporting the administration of her father, President Duterte.
14 Senate bets
“We are going around…because we’re looking for friends and allies to help push the candidacies of senators who will help the administration of President Duterte,” Carpio said in her speech during the ceremonial pledge of alliance.
She said HNP would endorse 14 candidates, namely: reelectionist Senators Cynthia Villar, Koko Pimentel and Sonny Angara; former Senators Jinggoy Estrada, JV Ejercito, Bong Revilla and Pia Cayetano; Maguindanao Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu; Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos; former Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald dela Rosa; former presidential aide Bong Go; former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque; former presidential adviser Francis Tolentino; and broadcast journalist Jiggy Manicad.
Some of the senatorial bets themselves made the most out of the event by also imparting a few words to the estimated 3,000 Quezon City residents who trooped to the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium.
Touted as one of the most vote-rich cities in the country, Quezon City has 1.1 million registered voters out of its 3.1 million residents.
