DHAKA, Bangladesh – Police in Bangladesh have used batons to disperse opposition supporters taking part in a general strike in the capital.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is protesting a government decision to divide Dhaka into two administrative zones, a plan they say is aimed at removing the opposition-backed mayor.
Schools and businesses were shut during the daylong strike Sunday, but a few vehicles were moving in the streets.
The party said at least eight demonstrators were injured in the dispersal.
Police said their goal is to maintain order.
