Guns, shabu, seized from suspected gunrunner in Pasig

Three handguns and suspected shabu worth P60,000 were seized from a suspected gunrunner during an entrapment operation in Pasig City.

According to the Eastern Police District (EPD), they received information that suspect John Medina Jr., 41, resident of Muzon in Taytay, Rizal was involved in gunrunning and illegal drug trafficking.

Acting on the tip, the EPD’s  Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Pasig City Police Station’s Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) then launched the entrapment operation to arrest Medina.

On Wednesday evening, Medina was arrested in Barangay Bagong Ilog, Pasig City after he tried to sell shabu worth P500 to an undercover police officer.

Aside from the two sachets of suspected shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, and the marked money used in the bust, police also recovered a caliber 9mm pistol, a .22 caliber revolver loaded with five bullets, and 10 more live bullets. Also seized from the suspect were another 9mm pistol and two magazines, each loaded with 12 bullets.

The EPD said Medina faces before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office a complaint for violation of Section 32 (Unlawful Sale of Firearms or Ammunition) of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

In addition, complaints for violations of Sections 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), 12 (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia) of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will also be filed against Medina, police said.  /muf
