DAVAO CITY — Mayor Sara Duterte on Tuesday said her constituents were pleased her city was among the 10 richest in the country.
She said such honor spelled huge potentials for urban centers outside the capital.
“The Dabawenyos are proud that Davao City made it to the top 10 richest cities in the country,” Mayor Duterte said. “It says a lot about the promising future of cities outside Luzon, especially the ones from Mindanao,” she added.
Davao maintained its ninth rank among the country’s ten richest cities as its assets jumped to P13.18 billion last year, a P3.38-billion increase from the same period in 2016, a Commission on Audit report showed.
President Duterte’s hometown is the only metropolis from Mindanao to land on the list.
Duterte said the city was also working to be debt-free in the next two years.
“Despite this recognition, we are trying our hardest to ensure that we identify and reach out to those who are poor and take them out of poverty. Only then can we be truly happy about being a rich city,” she said.
