Phoenix closes Makati station ahead of closure order

The Makati City government has ordered the closure of Phoenix Petroleum station in Bangkal after it was discovered to be operating without a permit.

However, Atty. Ramon Zorrilla, Assistant Vice President for External Affairs Pheonix Petroleum, said there might have been a “miscommunication” as they have been in possession of a copy of their business permit issued by the city government. He also said they have voluntarily closed the gas station ahead of the local government’s order.

“Nevertheless, we have voluntarily closed the station last November 1 at 6 a.m. prior to the present issuance,” Zorrilla told INQUIRER.net.

The order issued on Monday by the Office of the Mayor instructed Phoenix Gas Station to “cease and desist from further operating” its business establishment “until such time compliance with the said ordinance is made.”

Pheonix Gas Station violated Section 4A.01 of the Revised Makati Revenue Code (Ordinance No. 2004-A-025) when it was found to be operating without a business or mayor’s permit, the order said.

The Makati City government’s order came after the gas station has been identified as the source of a fuel leak last week.

Phoenix said they will not resume their operations unless they are “fully satisfied of the presence and functionality (of) our safety procedures as well as obtaining the appropriate consent of the concerned city and other officials.”  /kga
