Jeepney drivers told: Secure new fare matrix first before charging P10

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday reminded  jeepney drivers to secure a fare matrix before they could charge their passengers a P10 fare.

LTFRB Executive Director Samuel Jardin said that the LTFRB will start to releasing the fare matrix to jeepney drivers after the weeklong Undas break.

“We will start giving the matrix today because we have to await the 15-day period for the effectivity of the decision,” Jardin said in an interview with the ABS CBN News Channel.

Jardin said only “those who can secure from the office the fare increase matrix can collect the P10 minimum fare for the first four kilometers.”

He said those without a valid fare matrix “are not allowed to collect” and warned that there is a corresponding penalty for violators.

The P10 minimum fare for jeepney took effect on Nov. 2, but the LTFRB failed to release fare matrix due to the Undas break.

Prior to the effectivity, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) asked the board to review the fare hike in jeepneys in National Capital Region and in Regions 3 and 4.
