Malacañang on Sunday urged Bar examinees to “uphold the integrity and dignity” of the legal profession, saying that it is the “real challenge” after passing the month-long examinations.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo issued the statement as he wished future lawyers good luck on the first day of the Bar examinations.
“As you take another step on the ladder of your legal career, we offer you our fervent prayers. While this is certainly a test of your academic knowledge, it is likewise a yardstick of your calmness and courage under pressure,” he said.
“All these are, however, only requisites to the practice of law as the real challenge is upholding the integrity and dignity of the profession, amid all fascinations of the legal world, after you’ve taken your oaths and signed the rolls,” he added.
The Bar exam is set for four Sundays, starting November 4, at the University of Santo Tomas.
Panelo said that for the 9,000 bar examinees, the common goal is to become part of the legal profession.
“Just like all other licensure examinations (but described by most as arguably the hardest), this exam for aspiring lawyers is, as they say, one of life’s great equalizers,” he said.
“Whatever your background is, you, along with the expected 9,000 examinees, are all here for a common purpose, and that is, to make your dream come true by embarking a career in the legal profession,” Panelo added.
At least 400 cops were deployed to the examination venue to secure the area. /ee
