Motorcycle rider dead, 2 hurt in Quezon road mishap

LUCENA CITY – A motorcycle driver died and his two passengers were injured in an accident along the Maharlika Highway in Calauag town in Quezon province early Saturday, police said.

A police report said while Juan Sotero, 65, was driving a “bakulong” (tricycle designed for cargo) with passengers Adoracion Sotero, 62, and Maricel Mirasol, 42, and negotiating the ascending section of the highway in Barangay (village) Bagong Silang around 2:30 a.m., a spare tire which was disconnected from an unidentified passing cargo truck crashed into the motorcycle.

Juan suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot. The two passengers, who also suffered serious injuries, were taken to St. Peter Hospital at the town proper.

Police were still conducting an investigation.
