Ex-mayor of Surigao Sur town wanted for graft held in Davao

DAVAO CITY—Police here arrested on Thursday a former mayor of Tagbina town, in Surigao del Sur, who was facing corruption charges before the Sandiganbayan.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, Southern Mindanao police regional spokesperson, said elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested Rufo Pabilona, 65, at Kilometer 7.5, Purok Matina Pangi around 8:30 a.m.

Pabilona, who was Tagbina mayor from 1986 to 1995, had arrest warrants issued by the anti-graft court in 2002 and 2006  for violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Pabilona is now under police custody pending his hand-over to the Sandiganbayan, Driz said.
