Unknown to some, the burial site of National Artist for Painting Fernando Amorsolo can be found inside the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City, adorned by his life-size statue.

Amorsolo is considered one of the artists who inspired the spread of the so-called Mabini Art — a style of painting that uses realism in depicting the lives of Filipinos and still-life paintings that are now being sold along Mabini Street (thus, the name Mabini Art) in Ermita, Manila, done by local artists.
The renowned realist painter, who was born in Manila, studied at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Fine Arts along with other masters such as his mentor Fabian dela Rosa and fellow-national artist Carlos “Botong Francisco.
Aside from the Amorsolo statue, other monuments that visitors fond to visit inside the Loyola Memorial Park include the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, which marks the cemetery’s columbarium.

Loyola cemetery is also host to the resting place of fallen police officers, this is Marikina City Police’s tribute to their fallen colleagues, and the “Bulaklak ng Pakikiramay” guarded by uniformed security officers. /jpv
