With the expected influx of people visiting their dead at various cemeteries on the first day of “Undas,” hundreds of uniformed policemen were deployed on Thursday at the Manila South Cemetery in Makati.

National Capital Region Police Office director (NCRPO) Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said around 400 police officers were deployed to ensure the security of individuals that continue to flock the Manila South Cemetery.

“Sa south natin dito, meron tayong mga 400 [na pulis] na tumutulong,” he told reporters at the cemetery.

(Here at our south, we have 400 policemen who are helping.)

Eleazar said these policemen will focus on offering effective supervision in the said cemetery.

“Ang ginawa natin binigyan natin ng focus yung effective supervision na yung mga commanders in the ground para ikutin at siguraduhin na kung ano yung plano e yun ang gagawin natin,” he said.

(What we are doing is we are focusing on the effective supervision of the commanders in the ground to go rounds and make sure that what we have planned is being implemented.)

Eleazar also called on parents to strictly monitor and guide their own children, this after a minor was held under custody on Wednesday after sneaking in illegal drugs at the cemetery.

“Bottomline kasi dito is yung proper supervision at guidance nung nga magulang sa mga kabataan,” he said.

(The bottomline here is the proper supervision and guidance of parents to their children.)

He advised visitors to have patience at long lines at the entrance gate of cemeteries due to strict inspection of their belongings as part of the security measures. /jpv
