Locsin: PH backing for China unflinching
Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Monday reiterated the Philippines’ unequivocal support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative, a massive infrastructure and trade development plan, which other countries were treating with suspicion.
The Philippines stood to benefit from the plan, said Locsin, who declared in an interview published online by ANC that he loved New York so much.
Locsin said energy was one of the aspects of the China plan that would benefit the Philippines.
He said the initiative had given China access to energy sources in the Indian Ocean and “vast deserts of Central Asia.”
If China succeeded, Locsin said, “we, too, shall have greater access to our energy needs from abroad.” —Frinston Lim
