PCG: Stranded passengers at ports due to ‘Rosita’ down to over 1,700

The number of people stranded at various ports in the country decreased Tuesday afternoon as typhoon “Rosita” (international name: Yutu) negotiates its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 4 p.m., the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said around 1,744 passengers remain stranded at Luzon and Visayas ports down from the 1,937 individuals that were affected by the grounding of inter-island passenger vessels due unfavorable sea conditions brought by Rosita on Tuesday morning.

Specifically, the PCG said a total of 1,375 passengers were stranded in ports of Southern Luzon while eight people were stranded in Manila North Harbor port in the National Capital Region.

In Western Visayas ports, a total of 39 passengers were recorded stranded with 23 people in Caticlan Jetty Port in Aklan, and 16 others in Culasi Port in Capiz.

In the Bicol Region, the PCG said Pasacao port in Camarines Sur had 283 stranded passengers and in Northeastern Luzon, 39 reported passengers were stranded

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Rosita has weakened after it crossed the rugged terrain of Northern Luzon.

The state weather bureau said Rosita is currently en route to the West Philippine Sea and could likely exit PAR by Wednesday afternoon. /kga
