NCRPO to field 4,000 cops for ‘Undas’

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) would field more than 4,000 police personnel for this year’s commemoration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day to ensure the safety of people visiting cemeteries and traveling out of Metro Manila.

“All police units will double the police visibility and intensify police operations to ensure public safety and protection in the whole Metro Manila,” NCRPO chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.

He also said that the NCRPO is working with other law enforcement agencies, especially the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the local government units (LGUs) and volunteer groups in securing key establishments and assisting motorists.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said earlier that around 3,000 cops would be deployed to different areas in Metro Manila.

“Furthermore, I already instructed all the district directors for the full implementation and supervision of all its resources from personnel, mobility, and other logistical requirements for the smooth and successful deployment and operation on their respective area of responsibility,” he said.

It has been a tradition for Filipino Catholics to honor their dead relatives on All Souls’ Day. Data from the Manila Police District (MPD) shows that around three million people flock to the biggest cemeteries in Manila.

Eleazar pleaded to the public to cooperate with the police force in ensuring that the commemoration of All Souls’ Day would be peaceful.

“Ngayong Undas, hinihingi po namin ang inyong kooperasyon at suporta sa ating mga kapulisan para sa isang mapayapa at matiwasay na paggunita sa ating mga mahal sa buhay,” he said. /ee
