Mayor survives vehicle crash in Davao del Sur

HAGONOY, Davao del Sur – Hagonoy Mayor Condrado Laza, a retired police director, survived a vehicle crash on Sunday evening.

PO2 Romulo Dodoso, Hagonoy police investigator, said Laza, his police escort, and three others were aboard a Toyota Hilux service vehicle heading for Digos City when the car’s left front tire exploded, causing the vehicle to swerve to the opposite lane and roll over.

Reports said the vehicle went through the barbed wire fence of the Cocoa Investors Inc. Plantation before hitting some banana plants as it rolled.

Laza suffered only minor bruises despite the extent of damage to the vehicle.

Dodoso said all passengers were taken to Medical Center of Digos City (MCDC) hospital for treatment.

Laza, a former chief of the Davao City Police Office,  is a close friend of President Rodrigo Duterte.

He is the current president of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) Davao del Sur Chapter and the chairman of Hugpong Ng Pagbabago (HNP) in Hagonoy town.

Laza is seeking reelection under the HNP banner. /atm
