Two quakes jolt Davao Occidental on Monday

Two earthquakes struck off Davao Occidental within an hour of each other on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs) reported.

The second and stronger earthquake that measured at magnitude 3.4 hit 134 kilometers (km) southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, at 1:11 p.m.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 45 km.

An earlier 3.3-magnitude quake hit 131 km southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, at 12:11 p.m., Phivolcs reported.

Also of tectonic origin, the quake had a depth of 100 km.

Phivolcs said no aftershocks and damage could be expected from both earthquakes.  /cbb
