Ten areas have now been placed under Signal No. 2 as Typhoon “Rosita” (international name “Yutu”) moved closer to Luzon.
Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, Polillo Island, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet and Nueva Vizcaya are now under Signal No. 2, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 8 a.m. bulletin on Monday.
Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Northern Quezon , Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna, Batangas, Bataan, Zambales, Cavite and Camarines Norte have been placed under Signal No. 1.
Rosita maintained its strength as it moved closer toward the Isabela-Aurora area, where it is expected to make landfall on Tuesday.
Heavy rain is expected over Northern and Central Luzon on Monday night.
It was packing maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph.
It was last spotted 510 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, moving west southwest at 20 kph.
Small vessels are advised not to venture out along the seaboards of areas with storm signals and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
Pagasa earlier said the storm’s track was almost similar to that of Ompong (Mangkhut) which devastated Northern Luzon in September. /cbb
