Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Sunday assured the public that even with the recent favorable Social Weather Stations (SWS) trust rating, the Duterte administration would not rest on its laurels and would implement “bolder reforms.”
The latest SWS survey showed that President Rodrigo Duterte’s net trust rating increased in the third quarter of 2018.
‘We are grateful’
“We are grateful for our people’s continuing trust in President Rodrigo Roa Duterte with the latest SWS showing a ‘very good’ trust rating at +62 in his favor,” Panelo said.
In a statement, he said “the first job of every good leader is to inspire trust, as such is essential to produce positive results.”
“We therefore view the survey results, which according to the polling firm rose by 5 percent from +57 in June 2018, as a source of inspiration to continue delivering the President’s promise of genuine and meaningful change in the government and to the nation,” Panelo said.
He made the remarks following the release of the results of the SWS survey, which was conducted among 1,500 respondents from Sept. 15 to 23.
The survey showed that the President’s net trust ratings increased in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon, while his ratings remained steady in the Visayas, with “good,” and Mindanao with “excellent.”
14 percent undecided
The survey also revealed that 14 percent of Filipinos remained undecided, while 12 percent said they had little trust in Mr. Duterte.
The SWS said this gave the President an average net trust rating of +68, or “very good,” for his first two years in office.
Panelo maintained that “regardless of the ratings, there is no room for complacency in this branch of the government.”
“We will persevere to undertake bolder reforms to make the bureaucracy more efficient and responsive to the needs of our people,” he said.
He also appealed for the public’s help and cooperation so that the people “will thrive and push the nation forward amid whatever towering challenge we will face” under the President’s leadership.
