WATCH: Freeze…read books! MPD cops teach street kids via library on wheels

Street children can now enjoy free basic education services from the police.

You read it right, folks – the police, and they are the officers of the Manila Police District (MPD).

Last Oct. 1, MPD launched its project “Ang Guro Kong Pulis,” which aimed at helping street children around Rizal Park in Manila by giving free basic education such as basic reading and writing.

MPD Police Supt. Rolando Anduyan said the project was meant to prevent the children from using solvent and rugby.

“Long-term solution ito na through education ia-adress yung mga nagso-solvent, nagru-rugby, (This is a long-term solution that through education it will address street children who are using rugby or solvent),” Anduyan told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview on Friday.

Anduyan said police officers with background on education are tasked to teach the street children.

“Graduate sila. Mga board passer sila pero nagpulis. (They are graduates. Some of them are board passers but opted to be police officers),” he said./ac
