NAGA CITY — Six persons in Barangay (village) Bolod in San Pascual, were found dead Thursday night after supposedly eating a kind of puffer fish locally known as “butete,” a police official said on Saturday.
San Pascual lies in Burias Island, one of the three islands that compose. Masbate. It is about 174 kilometers from Masbate and two-hours away from Pasacao, Camarines Sur via boat ride.
The bodies were recovered at about 9 p.m., Senior Superintendent Heriberto Olitoquit, acting provincial police director of Masbate, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a text message.
The victims were identified as farmer Pascual Ello, 77; his wife Sonia, 70; son Mahanitoy, 35; Vicente Hanili, 18; Catalino Esplana, 60; and Eden Bello, 65.
The bodies were brought to San Pascual rural health office for autopsy, Olitqouit said.
