Kin of slain La Union politicians seek posts
Family members of two murdered politicians are seeking reelection for various posts in La Union province.
In Agoo town, Rep. Sandra Eriguel is seeking a second term in La Union’s second congressional district, running against former La Union Rep. Thomas Dumpit Jr. and Mayor Dante Garcia of Tubao town.
She is the widow of former La Union Rep. Eufranio Eriguel, who was shot dead as he spoke at a political rally on the eve of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on May 12.
Eriguel’s daughter, Agoo Mayor Stefanie Eriguel, is also seeking reelection.
In Sudipen town, acting Mayor Wendy Joy Buquing is running for mayor.
She is the widow of Mayor Alexander Buquing, who was killed on Oct. 1 when their vehicle was attacked at Bangar town. Wendy Joy was wounded while two others were killed. — GABRIEL CARDINOZA
