Sen. Richard Gordon is asking for lifestyle checks on personalities linked to the P6.8 billion shabu (crystal meth) smuggling case.
“We are asking for a lifestyle check of all that is involved and named in this report, including an investigation by the Anti-Money Laundering Council,” Gordon said in a press briefing.
Gordon, chairman of the Senate blue ribbon committee that is investigating the drug smuggling controversy, was referring to agents of the Bureau of Customs (BoC), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) deputy director general for administration Ismael Fajardo and Senior Supt. Eduardo Acierto of the Philippine National Police Civil Security Group.
The senator has also recommended to BoC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña to eliminate the consignees for hire system at the bureau and to replace all personnel, including the X-ray inspectors, for being “incompetent.”
“Sinabi ko nga na dapat higpitan ni Commissioner yung kanyang consignee for hire. Sinabi ko rin na dapat nyang palitan yung mga tao nya doon kasi mukha talagang walang kakayahan, incompetent,” Gordon said.
“Tinawag nga natin yung sa X-ray tapos talagang hindi ginawa yung nagbabasa sa Customs. Lagi tayong bumibili ng malaking gamit tapos di naman gagamitin ng Customs, sayang lang. Tapos nalulusutan pa tayo,” Gordon said. /muf
