Vice President Leni Robredo has appealed to voters to rethink their choices and correct their “mistakes” during the 2016 elections, as she led the launch of the opposition Senate slate on Wednesday.
Speaking during the presentation of the eight candidates of the Oposisyon Koalisyon (OK) in a Marikina City covered court, she expressed hope that the perceived underdogs would win the way she did.
The eight include former Senator and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, reelectionist Sen. Bam Aquino, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano and former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada.
Also part of the slate are former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, election lawyer Romulo Macalintal, and former Bangsamoro Transition Commission member Samira Gutoc-Tomawis.
Election promises
Robredo said voters should look into whether the officials elected in 2016 were able to fulfill their promises.
“Let’s go back. What were the reasons why we voted those we voted for in 2016? And hopefully, this 2019, if we made mistakes in the 2016 elections, now is the time to correct our mistakes,” she said.
“We would not be swayed by sweet talk; we would not be swayed by the number of promises,” she added.
Former President Benigno Aquino III, as well as other Liberal Party stalwarts and allies were present during the event. —Vince F. Nonato
