Former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas II missed the formal introduction of the Oposisyon Koalisyon (OK) senatorial candidate because of a trip scheduled before he confirmed his intention to run in 2019, Senator Bam Aquino said Wednesday.

“I think he’s abroad,” Aquino said after OK’s program in Barangay Parang, Marikina City.

“Sa pagkakaalam ko, nahuli rin ‘yong kanyang desisyon na tatakbo and he already scheduled a previous trip. But of course, kasama siya dito sa aming otso,” he added.

Roxas, a former senator and a Liberal Party member, was filled in by former Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman during the event.

He was not initially included in OK’s list of senatorial candidates, filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections a day before the deadline.

However, requests from LP supporters and LP Chair and Vice President Leni Robredo, including the alleged dire situation of the country’s economy, prompted Roxas to run for public office again, after losing to President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 elections.
