116 Boracay hotels, resorts ready to open by October 26 – DOT

Some 116 hotels and resorts in Boracay will be all set to take in travelers starting October 26, when government re-opens the world-famous island to tourists, the Department of Tourism (DOT) announced.

In a Twitter post on Monday afternoon, the DOT issued an updated list of accredited hotels and resorts, which had an available of 5,677 rooms to accommodate island visitors. The DOT list, in August, only had 25 hotels and resorts.

“Updated list of DOT-accredited accommodation establishments as of October 22, 2018. A total of 116 establishments accounting to 5,677 rooms are now allowed to accept booking reservations and operate from 26 October 2018 onwards. #SaveBoracay #sustainabletourism,” the DOT announcement read.

Fairways and Blue Water Resort, and Paradise Garden Resort Hotel and Convention Center have the highest number of available rooms with 700 and 463, respectively.

All 116 establishments have been accredited by the DOT after securing permits and clearances from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Boracay was closed in April for the six-month rehabilitation after President Rodrigo Duterte called the island a “cesspool” due to the various environmental and zoning problems in the renowned tourist destination.  /kga
