Eleazar relieves 2 cops for damaging taxicab side mirror in viral video

The two police officers who are seen damaging the side mirror of a taxicab in an online video that went viral were relieved from their posts and will face administrative charges, Police Director Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief said Tuesday.

Eleazar sanctioned the police officers after a viral video circulated on social media. The video showed PO2 Ralp Curibang Tumanguil and PO2 Jay Pastrana Templonuevo damaging the side mirror of a taxi along Andrews Boulevard in Pasay City on October 19.

“Makakaasa ang publiko, lalong-lalo na ang may-ari at drayber ng taxi na bibigyan ng patas at agarang aksyon ang nasabing insidente at paparusahan ang mga sangkot na pulis,” Eleazar said in a statement.

(The public, especially the owner and driver of the taxi, can expect that the incident will be given fair and immediate action and that the policemen involved will be sanctioned.)

Tumanguil is stationed at Police Community Precinct-7 of Parañaque City Police Station, while Templonuevo is assigned at the NCRPO.

The police officers are not members of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group as claimed by earlier reports.

Aside from administrative charges, Tumanguil is also facing a criminal complaint for damaging the side mirror of the taxicab. The complaint was filed by the cab driver.

Police investigation showed that the policemen were escorting a Korean national from Parañaque City to Pasay City when the incident happened.  /muf
