A victory for justice, rule of law, and democracy.

This was how Senator Antonio Trillanes IV described the ruling of Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148, which junked the motion of the Department of Justice (DOJ) for his arrest over the non-bailable coup d’état charge.

“Tatandaan natin itong araw na ito…Nagwagi ang tama, nagwagi ang hustisya, nagwagi ang rule of law, nagwagi ang demokrasya at isang tao lang ang gumawa nyan,” Trillanes told reporters on Monday, referring to Judge Andres Soriano.

While he thanked the people who prayed for the truth to prevail, the senator was also all praise for Soriano, who penned the decision.

Trillanes noted how Soriano “single-handedly upheld justice and the rule of law” in the country “despite the extreme pressures coming from the Duterte regime.”

It was President Rodrigo Duterte, who ordered the revival of the coup d’état and rebellion cases against Trillanes after revoking the amnesty granted to him by the previous administration.

“Tayo po ay nabubuhayan ng loob na meron pong pagasa dito sa ating bayan and this is personified by Judge Soriano at this point,” Trillanes said.

The senator admitted that he was already psyched “for the worst case scenario.”

“In fact, hindi na nga ako nag-shave kasi bakit pa kung— hindi, hindi I just forgot,” he said in jest.

With the decision of the court now, Trillanes promised to continue to be a staunch critic of the Duterte administration.

“Punung-puno tayo ng energy ngayon. Talagang bantay lang sila…” he added. /kga
