Two moderate quakes hit Davao Occidental
DAVAO CITY—Two moderate quakes hit Davao Occidental early on Sunday, state seismologists said.
The stronger of the temblors, a magnitude-5.4, occurred around 2:51 a.m. with a depth of 47 kilometers, its epicenter traced some 185 kilometers east of Sarangani’s coast, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Aftershocks were expected after the tectonic quake, but the state seismology agency said the temblor would not cause damage on land.
A magnitude 4.8 quake happened 20 minutes earlier, traced 145 kilometers east off Sarangani municipality, with a depth of 34 kilometers, Phivolcs said.
The seismology agency said aftershocks were not expected following the first event. /ee
