Magnitude 5.4 quake hits off Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake occurred off Davao Occidental early Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the quake struck 185 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, at 2:51 a.m.

The epicenter of the quake was monitored by the sea but the agency warned residents to brace for possible aftershocks.

No intensities were recorded by the agency in the nearby provinces and municipalities.

The tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 47 kilometers. /cbb
