A fire of still unknown origin struck a residential area in Mandaluyong City late Saturday afternoon, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

Fire Officer 1 Jeffrey Malinis of BFP District IV told that the fire spread through a residential area in Barangay Mauway.

Firetrucks started to arrive at the scene at about 2:22 p.m. After about 13 minutes, the blaze reached the 3rd alarm, the BFP said.

Houses in the affected area are mostly made of light materials, the BFP said.

Firefighters are still trying to extinguish the fire as of posting.  /muf
