18 hurt in Olongapo City road accident

OLONGAPO CITY — Eighteen people were injured when a passenger jeepney fell on its side after losing its brakes along the main road in Barangay (village) New Cabalan here on Saturday morning (Oct. 20). 

Police said the jeepney’s brakes malfunctioned while navigating a curve along the National Highway while heading for the city proper at about 7 a.m.

Witnesses said the jeepney swerved off the road toward the right lane before it toppled over on its side.

Injured were driver, Calito de Vega, 51, and his passengers: Rodel Torreliza, 45; Nhoyel Gordon, 41; Arnold Sabio, 47; Manuel Hiduaza, 41; Angeline Mallari, 28; Fereras Garcia, 21; Remelyn Espero, 21; Raquel Crespo, 19; Rizel Tubilia Dialo, 32; Marisa Lorenzo, 63; Earen Rupa, 23; Jean Ita Rebuto, 20; Babylyn Navor, 37; Ronald Ferea, 28; Esmeralda David, 52; John Santos, 28; and Jimuel Viray, 28.

The victims were all rushed to James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital for treatment. /jpv
