4 dead in 12-vehicle road mishap in Albay town

DARAGA, Albay—Three people died on the spot while another one died on the way to the hospital following a road accident involving at least 12 vehicles in this town’s Busay village Friday morning.

Superintendent Benito Dipad, Daraga police chief, said that they are still in the process of identifying the names of the two men and two women who died in the accident that happened around 9:30 a.m.

Senior Police Officer 1 Junny Mabini, investigator on case, said a dump truck loaded with gravel had experienced mechanical problem. The driver reportedly lost its brakes, which resulted in multiple vehicular collision.

The truck hit two tricycles, one “kabal-kabal” (tricycle for carrying pigs), a private van, two jeepneys, at least four motorcycles, and two other trucks.

Mabini said three of the victims died instantly while the other victim died while being rushed to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in Daraga.

Dipad said that at least 11 others were taken to the hospital for treatment.  /jpv
