Juan Ponce Enrile returns to Comelec to revise his COC

Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile personally showed up at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Manila on Wednesday to revise his certificate of candidacy (COC).

The 94-year-old veteran politician who filed his COC through his lawyer Joseph Sagandoy on Tuesday will now run under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) instead of being an independent candidate.

Enrile’s occupation has also been updated to “lawyer,” after he earlier misidentified himself as a “businesswoman” in the COC filed by his lawyer. In the first form he filed, the error was also immediately corrected with few letters erased to make it “businessman.”

He also changed his address in his COC from Makati to his hometown in Aparri, Cagayan.

In refiling his candidacy, Enrile described the ideal qualities of a senator amid the pressing problems of the country.

“To be a senator, you must have a wide and deep intellectual ground to perform your role as senator of the public,” he said.

If he wins a Senate seat in the 2019 polls, Enrile said he will focus on addressing inflation, criminality, insurgency, and deteriorating value of peso, among other issues.

Enrile first assumed office as senator in 1987 and was reelected in 1995. Enrile made a comeback bid in 2004 for his third Senate term and was reelected in 2010. /muf
