Senatorial aspirant and former reporter, Jiggy Manicad, would seek the removal of taxes on films and songs that showcase the Filipino culture as part of his advocacy to promote nationalism.

This is to encourage more producers and composers to create such content, he said.

“Yung mga film producer, yung songwriters, composers, CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines), NCAA (National Commission for Culture and the Arts) – suportahan yung mga gagawa ng Filipino music, wag nang i-tax yung mga yan,” Manicad told reporters before filing his candidacy for senator in the 2019 polls at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headquarters on Wednesday.

“Yung mga nakikita nating Heneral Luna, Goyo, iyan ang mga kailangan nating pelikula kaya sana wag nang i-tax. Para maeenganyo na gunawa bg pelikulang Pilipino ating mga producer at ating mga composer na gumawa ng awit na pang-Pilipino,” he added.

He is running as an independent candidate.

Manicad is a former reporter of GMA news for years and became a news anchor for one of the programs of the said station. /cbb
