CITY OF MALOLOS — Two Bulacan journalists on Tuesday, Oct. 16, engaged in a brawl at the local election office, stealing the limelight from Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, who filed his candidacy for vice governor, and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando, who is gunning for the gubernatorial post.
A cameraman hired by a stringer for a television news network and a Bulacan newspaper writer clashed during a heated argument just before the start of a press conference in the afternoon.
They started punching each other, until another newsman and a police officer broke up the fight, said Frederick Silverio, president of the Bulacan Press Club.
Fernando, a candidate of the National Unity Party, will be running against Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad, the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling party, PDP-Laban.
It is not clear who will challenge Alvarado, although reports say either Councilor Joseph Andrew Mendoza of his father, former Gov. Joselito Mendoza, will seek the vice governor’s post. /atm
